PingPengPerformances is an interdisciplinary performance ensemble founded in 2018 by Silvia Sauer and Birgit Wieger. Since 2023, the group has operated as the extension quartet PAPER fLUX, with the participation of Ulrike Schwarz and Sanja Star. The collective develops improvisational works across sound, movement, objects, and media.
PAPER fLUX investigates paper as material, document, and performative system. Through folding, projection, scanning, writing, amplification, and transformation, paper becomes an active component within a real-time interaction framework.
Within this setup, I develop and perform a media system based on live camera input, motion tracking, and projection mapping. The system combines these elements with audio-reactive processes, which I modulate and adjust in real time, allowing the visual output to respond dynamically to the evolving performance. Human gestures trigger visual sequences and time-based effects, allowing the projection to dynamically respond to the performers’ actions. Media processes, sound, objects, and movement function as interdependent agents within a shared improvisational structure. Each performance unfolds as a unique configuration in which physical actions and visual processing influence one another.
PAPER fLUX explores tensions between fragility and infrastructure, physical substrate and digital circulation, treating paper as a site of exchange between material presence and mediated transformation.
